The Teaching Ministry of Geoff Volker

January 2016

FAMILY UPDATE

VolkerFamily

This family picture was taken at Thanksgiving. From left to right we have Staci and Zach with their children Dakota, Chase and Hudson. Then we have Bradley with Samantha with their children Annabelle, Bryson and Miles. Then you have Priscilla and me. We are followed by Debby and Matt with their two foster children Destiny and Daniel. Their faces are covered by a heart since legal restrictions regarding foster children demand that we do this. It should also be mentioned that Debby had a baby boy, Caleb, on January 5. Finally, we have Geoff Jr. and Heather with their child Keira. Our tribe has increased!

Priscilla’s Year End Report

Oh my, another year has come and gone! God has again amazed me with his grace and faithfulness to my family and to me. I don’t ever want to take for granted his love and care for us. I am always happy to let you all know what God is doing in our lives but I will make it brief. Geoff turned 65 this year and so has taken full advantage of using his medicare health plan. He had both knee and shoulder surgery. He is almost finished with all the physical therapy that goes along with the healing process. He will be very happy to be back riding his bike soon. I’m also grateful for the way the Lord is using him with IDS to train and encourage others in their walk with their Lord. There is lots of travel but I am used to that now and have much to do while he is gone from me.

Geoffrey Jr. continues to work for AllRisks  as a brokerage underwriter for commercial insurance. He is challenged by his job but I know his heart is being with his precious wife Heather and daughter Keira who only live six minutes from us! Heather is a busy mom who finds time to encourage and be encouraged by other moms who are in the same stage of life. They are experiencing the joys and challenges of having an almost two year old!

Zachary and our other precious daughter-in-law Staci still live in California with their three children. When they were home for Thanksgiving they surprised us with the news of number four peep on the way! We have since found out she will be arriving the first week of July.

Zachary is still an animator for Infinity Ward and the next Call of Duty game comes out in Nov. I would love to spill the beans on the game but then Zach would have to kill me. Staci is homeschooling our peeps even though she is so sick during her pregnancy. As you can see from our picture, their children are growing like weeds! We love any chance we can get to be with them. They are full of energy and love life to the fullest!

Samantha and Bradley also have number four peep on the way! This baby will also arrive the first week of July. We don’t know what it will be but will welcome it gladly. Bradley has now worked as IT director for a company called Vertra. We are very proud of his accomplishment of completing his book Star Wars Redeemed. I haven’t read it yet but Geoff says that Bradley is a very gifted writer. Samantha is also homeschooling Annabelle. We love living only ten minutes from them so we get to see their three peeps often.

Matt is now a Profesional Engineer for SRP. They have been busy fostering Destiny who is two and Daniel who is ten months old. Caleb Matthew decided to come six weeks early and weighs in at four lbs. 13oz. Samantha and I had the joy of being at his delivery. We praise God for his safe arrival. They still don’t know if they will be able to adopt Destiny and Daniel. We are thankful that God knows and that we can trust Him to do what is best for them. Caleb will be in the hospital for two weeks so it is wonderful to be right next door to help them.

As always we are so thankful to our great God that all of our children love and serve our Him! It was certainly nothing that we did to deserve that gift. It was only God’s love and mercy shown to them. We continue to pray for the salvation of all of our peeps and pray that the Lord would save them at an early age. We love being their Nana and Papa!

I’m sorry that this took longer than I had expected. Thank you for all that you do for the ministry and us. I especially covet your prayers for the future. Who ever knows what God will do in the future? I’m so thankful that God does know and we simply want to trust him and be faithful to Him. Love, Priscilla

stars

This is a remarkable book that overwhelms you with Star Wars trivia and a comprehensive biblical analysis from the perspective of New Covenant Theology. This is a very well written book that is hard to put down. I recommend it to you.

A THANK YOU AND A REQUEST FOR PRAYER

I want to give a special thank you to all those who have contributed at the end of this past year to help us financially. I also want to ask for continued prayer as I seek to raise what is still needed to put us on a solid financial standing.

THEOLOGICAL DISCUSSION GROUP

The Effects of Sin

IDS Theological Discussion Group meets every other month on a Saturday morning at my place. The purpose of this group is two-fold.

#1  An opportunity for believers to be iron sharpening iron with one another so that we can make progress on our understanding of Scripture. Each meeting one individual leads an interactive discussion on a biblical topic that believers do not all agree on.

#2  To learn how to discuss biblical issues that we disagree on in a manner that honors the God of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Next Meeting

Saturday, January 23

The discussion group is from 8:00am to 10:00am at the home of Geoff Volker. The issue to be discussed is “The Effects of Sin.” Geoff Volker is going to be leading this discussion. All are invited to be a part of this theological discussion. If you desire to attend please notify Geoff Volker (geoff.volker@ids.org, 480.313.8558).

AN INVITATION FOR AN EVENING OF THEOLOGY

I would be more than happy to come to your home to conduct an Evening of Theology on the topic of your choice. You choose the topic and who you want to invite, provide a little finger 2-6or by email. Consider having one of these gatherings. Please contact Geoff Volker (480-313-8558)

MORE OF THE NEW UPCOMING BOOK

Picture/Fulfillment: A Study in New Covenant Theology

I am in the process of putting together a comprehensive book on New Covenant Theology. As I finish portions of the book I will be putting them out for your examination and comment. Please feel very free to comment on my writing and do not hesitate to criticize it. My desire is to have a book that is clear and comprehensive. I will begin sending out portions of the new book in June. Please send your comments to geoff.volker@ids.org.

I am currently working on one of the major sections that discusses the role of Israel in the plan of God. What I have written is now available for your comment on the IDS website. Please do not hesitate to give criticisms or suggestions. I am in need of your thoughts so that I can do a better job on this book. Go to www.ids.org and check out the “new book” section. Everyone who receives the IDS newsletter will also receive the new book portions, as they are available.

IDS SATURDAY NITE THEOLOGY ON SERMONAUDIO.COM

The audio of the Saturday Nite Theology is now available on sermonaudio.com. All you need to do is to search under my name (Geoff Volker) and you can find these times of teaching.

Topics of Discussion

#1 When is Grace not biblical Grace?

#2 What does it mean when the bible says that the believer is no longer under law?

MEETING ONE ON ONE WITH GEOFF

One of the most effective forms of ministry that I do is to meet with guys one on one. It is in this setting that I can tailor what we study to meet the needs of the one I am meeting with. If this appeals to you all you have to do is to let me know that you want to meet together. It can be a one-time meeting or an on-going commitment. In light of full disclosure you ought to know that I benefit more from these meetings than the person I am meeting with. Please contact me at

480-313-8558 or geoff.volker@ids.org.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The begging portion of this Newsletter

As always, financial support will not be refused if you should decide to give some to me. All you need to do is to make out a check to “IDS” and send it to the address of the ministry, IDS, 3324 E. Enid Ave., Mesa, AZ 85204-4836. You can also send a check through the online banking of your bank. Personally I have found this method to be the most convenient way to support other ministries. Finally, you can give money by going to the IDS website (www.ids.org) and use the pay pal giving button. Please be aware that a portion of your gift through pay pal (2.5%) goes to pay pal. If you ever have questions regarding how we handle financial matters you only need to call or email me and I will answer all your questions.
