The Teaching Ministry of Geoff Volker

April 2015

A Sweet Tea Adventure

I spent 11 days in North and South Carolina. The trip provided a variety of teaching opportunities. My first stop was Raleigh where I spent the night with some very special friends, Craig and Kim Morrisette. The evening of my visit was given over to an “Evening of Theology” on the subject of New Covenant Theology. This was a time of fellowship and fielding some very well thought out questions. The next morning was spent giving a seminar on the “New Heart” to folks from Craig’s church who were small group leaders as well as though involved with biblical counseling. The next day, which was Sunday, was spent attending the church service of a friend of mine. The church, Servant’s Heart Fellowship, is located in Rocky Mount and the pastor is Dan Rolfe. We spent the afternoon together in order to deepen our friendship.

After this I went to Greenville and did a 3 part series on Galatians for the small group leaders of Integrity Church. While I was in Greenville I met with a variety of folks both individually and in small groups. This included the staff of Integrity church as well as a group of their small groups to discuss how to find the will of God. I should add that while in Greenville I stayed at the home of Kirk and Linda Burtch, which provided a very special time of fellowship. I also had a very enjoyable afternoon working with the staff of Campus Outreach as we walked through New Covenant Theology.

My time in Greenville would not be complete without spending a bunch of time with Brad Woodlief, the IDS Director of “In-Depth Studies of the Carolinas.” When we are together it is a time of ministry planning and the deepening of our love for each other. Brad’s wife Michelle is just about to have their 4th child. Brad’s quiver will be full.

The final stop of my trip was in Clemson, South Carolina, and the home of Hart and Shannon Coker. I traveled to Clemson with Scott Webster who is very dear friend and who was also instrumental in having me teach at Integrity Church. I first met Hart during my first trip to Minsk in 1996 and it was through the efforts of Hart that I began coming to Greenville, NC to teach beginning in 1998. My time with Hart and Shannon was a time of remarkable fellowship and encouragement. As I get older relationships mean more to me than most anything else.

My last night was spent in Raleigh at with Stephen Whitley, a special friend who has put together seminars for me to present my theological thoughts. Once again our time of fellowship was exceptional. The trip was very full but very satisfying. I want to say thank you to all those who prayed for me. It was a privilege to be able to take part in this opportunity for ministry.

All the travel and conference expenses for this summer’s trips to Belarus and Romania have been raised. Thank you for helping me out with this.

How are we to understand Lordship Salvation?

IDS Theological Discussion Group meets every other month on a Saturday morning at my place. The purpose of this group is two-fold.

#1 An opportunity for believers to be iron sharpening iron with one another so that we can make progress on our understanding of Scripture. Each meeting one individual leads an interactive discussion on a biblical topic that believers do not all agree on.

#2 To learn how to discuss biblical issues that we disagree on in a manner that honors the God of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Next Meeting

Saturday, April 18

The discussion group is from 8:00am to 10:00am at the home of Geoff Volker. The issue to be discussed is “How are we to understand Lordship Salvation? Brady Root, the pastor of Maricopa Springs Family Church, is going to be leading this discussion. All are invited to be a part of this theological discussion. If you desire to attend please notify Geoff Volker (, 480.313.8558).

Picture/Fulfillment: A Study in New Covenant Theology

I am in the process of putting together a comprehensive book on New Covenant Theology. As I finish portions of the book I will be putting them out for your examination and comment. Please feel very free to comment on my writing and do not hesitate to criticize it. My desire is to have a book that is clear and comprehensive. I will begin sending out portions of the new book in June. Please send your comments to

I have just finished the section on the New Covenant and am currently working on the chapter on the Davidic Covenant. What I have written is now available for your comment on the IDS website. Please do not hesitate to give criticisms or suggestions. I am in need of your thoughts so that I can do a better job on this book. Go to and check out the “new book” section. Everyone who receives the IDS newsletter will also receive the new book portions, as they are available.

To Minsk, Belarus (June 10-25)

I will be giving a conference in Gatava, Belarus as well as two Saturday conferences in different locations in Belarus. The content of the conference will be an examination of New Covenant Theology. I have been traveling to Belarus since 1996. I will also be stopping in Prague on my way home to visit Pavel and Klara Steiger, long-time missionaries and very dear friends.

To Bucharest, Romania (September 7-22)

I will be doing two conferences in Romania. I will spend about a week in Bucharest (southeast Romania) and then a week in Comanesti (northeast Romania). The subject matter of the conference in Comanesti will be “How to biblically resolve conflict.” The subject matter of the conference in Bucharest has yet to be decided.

One of the most effective forms of ministry that I do is to meet with guys one on one. It is in this setting that I can tailor what we study to meet the needs of the one I am meeting with. If this appeals to you all you have to do is to let me know that you want to meet together. It can be a one-time meeting or an on-going commitment. In light of full disclosure you ought to know that I benefit more from these meetings than the person I am meeting with. Please contact me at

The begging portion of this Newsletter

As always, financial support will not be refused if you should decide to give some to me. All you need to do is to make out a check to “IDS” and send it to the address of the ministry, IDS, 3324 E. Enid Ave., Mesa, AZ 85204-4836. You can also send a check through the online banking of your bank. Personally I have found this method to be the most convenient way to support other ministries. Finally, you can give money by going to the IDS website ( and use the pay pal giving button. Please be aware that a portion of your gift through pay pal (2.5%) goes to pay pal. If you ever have questions regarding how we handle financial matters you only need to call or email me and I will answer all your questions.

The “New Covenant Confession of Faith” has been revised. Please check out this thorough confession of faith from the perspective of New Covenant Theology. We think that it is better than the original one. Look at it and give us your feedback. It would be greatly appreciated.
