  1. Hi Geoff and Paul,
Can’t go with you on this one. All too often, we attempt to put God/Jesus/Holy Spirit in a box, and close the lid. Spurgeon had sermons on the Holy Spirit intervening and giving information to the elect. I know He does. He did for me a number of times as I have already alluded. So I am sorry that this no contact issue does not permit the Holy Spirit to work in New Covenant lives, but He sure has in mine!
    God bless,
    William Teal

I agree that the four D’s John Piper lists here are applicable. Particularly interestingly the one I am talking about is the “Declaration” part.
I don’t think we can rely on feelings, etc, that WE search for, and most of what your argument is that MAN is trying to find out God’s direction by impressions, for and by MAN, but GOD is free to tell us stuff we need to know by His Direct Statements to His people. We are not trying to go mystical here, but His Concern is for His Sheep and when it is necessary to correct or put a certain understanding in the heart of a man for a certain act to do or refrain from. There is this illustration mentioned in John’s writings above in Scripture where the angel speaks to Phillip. No where does God TELL us to use impressions or visions or feelings to relate to Him. But HE, GOD, can relate to us when HE decides to do so, using whatever He decides to use, for the benefit of His people, He is free to do as He wishes. HIS communication to us never violates His Word, nor is contrary to HIS WILL as described in Scripture.

  3. Bill,
My concern is how do we determine that God has spoken to us. Apart from an audible voice we cannot be certain that God has spoken.

  4. That is my supposition. God does speak to His People today, just as He did to Joseph, Mary’s betrothed, when Joseph wanted to put her away privily in Matthew 1:20 due to her being pregnant before they were married. It appeared as a dream, but it could be just as easily been a direct statement. I have had both things, dream, and directly being spoken to, happen to me.
Mat 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
