The Teaching Ministry of Geoff Volker

  FAMILY UPDATE FROM PRISCILLA

I echo what the Apostle Paul says to the church in Ephesus, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” As Geoff puts it, “We have it all!” Not some blessings but every blessing. Its only my faulty perspective when I don’t see it as every blessing that God has given me.  God has greatly blessed us this year again. What a joy it has been to be Geoff’s partner for over 37 years now and Mom to our 4 children, 3 spouses, and 5 grandchildren. I have been truly blessed both spiritually and physically.

I won’t bore you with too many details. Our most exciting news is that after praying for a wife for Geoffrey, the Lord has brought Heather into his life. We already love her!  She is an assistant manager for an apartment complex in Gilbert.  She loves the Lord and is learning to love her crazy new family.  They will be married in March.  Geoffrey continues to sell commercial insurance and is trying to build up his photography business.

Zachary and Staci bought their first home, which is located in Woodland Hills, CA.  We celebrated both Thanksgiving and a day later Christmas as a family in their new home.  It’s amazing that we could all stay there together which just shows how spacious it is. Now, if we continue to add more babies that could certainly pose a problem.  Zachary is the lead animator for the new Call of Duty game.  I guess a lot of people play the game, but I don’t have a clue of how it is played and am only thankful that it provides for his family.  Staci has taken on the task of homeschooling Dakota this year and is finding it very challenging.  I get to read over Skype with her every day which I love and look forward to. Hudson and Chase love having both a front and back yard to explore in.  I only wish we lived closer to them.

Samantha is very busy caring for two babies now.  She is a wonderful Mom and loving wife.  Bradley is the computer guy for VirTra Systems.  The company produces simulators to teach law enforcement how to use their weapons.  Annabelle is never seen without her Dolly and Bryson is all smiles and crawling everywhere!

Debby and Matt are enjoying their new home and putting their own personal touches on it.  Matt is almost finished with all his rotations at SRP and is looking for just the right division in which to settle.  Debby has retired at the ripe old age of 27!  She has lots of plans, like sewing, gardening, and raising chickens. They are both patiently waiting Gods perfect timing for children.

On December 2, my dear Mom went home to be with the Lord.  What a privilege it was to be by her side when she left her earthly body and went to heaven for an eternity with her Lord and Savior that she loved so much.  I grieve for my Dad as they had 63 years together, but I know the Lord will continue to be faithful to him since He is the God of all compassion and He will lovingly care for Daddy.

I would like to thank each and every one of you who are involved with IDS.  Your support of this ministry whether by prayer or finances is such an encouragement to us.  It is wonderful to have a hubby who loves the work that he does and never gets tired of it.  I praise God every day for this ministry and pray that it encourages you to love your Lord more and to love others.

“IN-DEPTH STUDIES WEEKEND” ON AM 1360 KPXQ PHOENIX, AZ

The time has come for all good things to come to an end. By this I am referring to the IDS radio program “In-Depth Studies Weekend.” We were unable to raise the needed funding to continue the radio show. Our last broadcast will be on Saturday, January 7 at 1:30pm on 1360 KPXQ in Phoenix, Arizona.

The good news is that through the radio show we were able to record 26 programs which make up a course in New Covenant Theology. A NEW READING FORUM

THE FORGOTTEN SPURGEON, by Iain Murray, published by Banner of Truth, 1978, 254 pages, paperback.

This book addresses three controversies in Spurgeon’s ministry. The first is his battle against a watered-down gospel. The second is his struggle against baptismal regeneration. The third is the famous “Down-Grade” controversy in which he battled for doctrinal truth. This is a vital book to remind us of our need to be faithful to our Lord in all that we do.

Saturday, March 10                chapters 5-10 (pages 139-249)

SPURGEON & HYPER-CALVINISM, by Iain Murray, published by Banner of Truth, 1995, 164 pages, paperback.

This short book addresses Spurgeon’s battle with true hyper-calvinism. Although he held to the doctrines of grace Spurgeon was biblically balanced in his teaching and refused to go farther than the Scripture is willing to go. This book serves as a great caution to beware of the danger of true hyper-calvinisim.

Saturday, May 12                   parts 3 and 4 (pages 125-159)

If you have a desire to get a grasp of church history then this is the book for you. Church History in Plain Language is a very readable church history. Shelley has done a wonderful job of taking us through the history of the church in a manner that is not dry or dusty. So… if you are interested in taking part in this study you must purchase the book and contact Geoff to let him know that you are going to take part in the Reading Forum. You can purchase the book on amazon.com for $15.35. Be sure to get the 3rd edition of the book.

MEETING ONE ON ONE WITH GEOFF

One of the most effective forms of ministry that I do is to meet with guys one on one. It is in this setting that I can tailor what we study to meet the needs of the one I am meeting with. If this appeals to you all you have to do is to let me know that you want to meet together. It can be a one-time meeting or an on-going commitment. In light of full disclosure you ought to know that I benefit more from these meetings than the person I am meeting with.

AN INVITATION FOR AN EVENING OF THEOLOGY

I would be more than happy to come to your home to conduct an Evening of Theology on the topic of your choice. You choose the topic and who you want to invite, provide a little finger food and I will lead the evening discussion. If this appeals to you then just let me know by phone or by email. There is no cost involved to bring me to your place to conduct the Evening of Theology. This is a tool to affect your family and friends for the Kingdom of God. Consider having one of these gatherings. Please contact Geoff Volker (480-924-4290, geoff.volker@ids.org)  to schedule an Evening of Theology.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The begging portion of this newsletter

As always, financial support will not be refused if you should decide to give some to me. All you need to do is to make out a check to “IDS” and send it to the address of the ministry, IDS, 3324 E. Enid Ave., Mesa, AZ 85204-4836. You can also send a check through the online banking of your bank. Personally I have found this method to be the most convenient way to support other ministries. Finally, you can give money by going to the IDS website (www.ids.org) and use the pay pal giving button. Please be aware that a portion of your gift through pay pal goes to pay pal. If you ever have questions regarding how we handle financial matters you only need to call or email me and I will answer all your questions.
