YEAR END FINANCIAL APPEAL

The December Squeeze

I am commonly asked about how much support I take in each month. To this question I commonly answer that the monthly support does not describe accurately what I raise each year. I am very dependent on one-time gifts. This is especially so at the end of the year. Therefore, with that in mind I am making this appeal for end of the year gifts so that, with the monthly support, I can make it through the next year. As always, whatever happens is according to the sovereign will of God. My Father in heaven knows exactly what I need to experience. I do not want to end this appeal without a very grateful thank you to all of you who have given gifts to this ministry during this past year. Thank you for enabling me to continue what I do. As I get a bit older I am often asked what will I now do. My answer is quite simple, I will continue to do what I am now doing with the addition of a few more naps.

For details as to how you can get support to me I would point you to the “Financial Support” section that is located toward the end of this newsletter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

IMPLICATIONS OF NEW COVENANT THEOLOGY

Special Men

  • Under the Old Covenant only Aaron and his male descendants, 30 to 50 years old, were the priests of Israel. Exodus 29:9, Numbers 4:34-37
  • The sacrifices of the priests of the Old Covenant did not pay for sins. Hebrews 9:6-10, 10:1-10
  • Jesus is a different kind of priest from that of the Old Covenant. His priesthood actually paid for sins. Hebrews 7:11-28
  • All who trust in Jesus alone to pay for their sins are now believer-priests. The believer does not need anyone to act as a go between he and his God. 1 Peter 2:9-10
  • Being a priest in the New Covenant era means that no believer needs anyone to act as a mediator between him and God. Jesus has already purchased our placement into the family of God and given us the privilege of going straight to the throne of grace. Hebrews 4:14-1
  • In the New Covenant era the church leaders are called elders or bishops. They are also called pastor-teachers. Ephesians 4:11, 1 Timothy 3:1, Titus 1:5
  • There is no teaching in the New Testament that says that church leaders have any special access to God with regard to teaching or prayer. They occupy a place of authority in the church. Hebrews 13:17

SUPPORT FOR OVERSEAS TRIPS NEXT YEAR

I am trying to be a bit more responsible and save money on overseas trips. Therefore, I am seeking to raise the funds for the Belarus and Romania trips by appealing for the money this fall instead of waiting until sometime after January. As always, do not feel compelled to give. I am convinced that this is a worthwhile opportunity and am asking my Father in heaven to fulfill my request. But whatever happens his Sovereign Will is unfolding and it is motivated by his love for me and is for my good. Romans 8:28

Trip to Belarus in May

I need to raise about $2,000 for this trip.

Trip to Romania in August

I need to raise about $2,000 for this trip.

THEOLOGICAL DISCUSSION GROUP

Saturday, January 21

How are we to handle doctrinal differences among believers?

The discussion group is from 8:00am to 10:00am at the home of Geoff Volker. Paul Honeycutt is going to be leading this discussion. All are invited to be a part on this theological discussion. If you desire to attend please notify Geoff Volker (geoff.volker@ids.org, 480.313.8558).

IDS Theological Discussion Group typically meets monthly on a Saturday morning at my place. The purpose of this group is two-fold.

#1  An opportunity for believers to be iron sharpening iron with one another so that we can make progress on our understanding of Scripture. Each meeting one individual leads an interactive discussion on a biblical topic that believers do not all agree on.

#2  To learn how to discuss biblical issues that we disagree on in a manner that honors the God of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 10:31

MORE OF THE NEW UPCOMING BOOK

Picture/Fulfillment: A Study in New Covenant Theology

I am in the process of putting together a comprehensive book on New Covenant Theology. As I finish portions of the book I will be putting them out for your examination and comment. Please feel very free to comment on my writing and do not hesitate to criticize it. My desire is to have a book that is clear and comprehensive. I will begin sending out portions of the new book in June. Please send your comments to geoff.volker@ids.org.

I am currently working on one of the major sections that discusses the role of Israel in the plan of God. What I have written is now available for your comment on the IDS website. Please do not hesitate to give criticisms or suggestions. I am in need of your thoughts so that I can do a better job on this book. Go to www.ids.org and check out the “new book” section. Everyone who receives the IDS newsletter will also receive the new book portions, as they are available.

MEETING ONE ON ONE WITH GEOFF

One of the most effective forms of ministry that I do is to meet with guys one on one. It is in this setting that I can tailor what we study to meet the needs of the one I am meeting with. If this appeals to you all you have to do is to let me know that you want to meet together. It can be a one-time meeting or an on-going commitment. In light of full disclosure you ought to know that I benefit more from these meetings than the person I am meeting with. Please contact me at 480-313-8558 or geoff.volker@ids.org.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The begging portion of this Newsletter

As always, financial support will not be refused if you should decide to give some to me. All you need to do is to make out a check to “IDS” and send it to the address of the ministry, IDS, PO Box 3482, Gilbert, AZ 85299. You can also send a check through the online banking of your bank. Personally I have found this method to be the most convenient way to support other ministries. Finally, you can give money by going to the IDS website (www.ids.org) and use the pay pal giving button. Please be aware that a portion of your gift through pay pal (2.5%) goes to pay pal. If you ever have questions regarding how we handle financial matters you only need to call or email me and I will answer all your questions.
