Theology 101

The teacher is Geoff Volker and our study is broken up into two parts. The first 15 minutes is given over to discussing any biblical questions that you might have. The last 45 minutes makes up our study.

Theology 101 is truly an interactive study where questions and discussion are strongly encouraged. You have the freedom to think out loud and the freedom to disagree with the teacher, who happens to be me. So… join us for another opportunity to get grounded in the faith. Unfortunately, child-care is not provided.

  • Wednesday Morning (6:45 to 7:45 am)

A Study of the Book of Revelation

The book of Revelation is commonly viewed as the most difficult book of the bible to understand. Our study of this book will reveal it to you as first and foremost a devotional book. The book of Revelation is a book of comfort for the believer. Our study of this book will include an examination of its literary style which is so important for us to grasp in order to correctly interpret it. As always questions and interaction is encouraged. Feel free to disagree, just do it in a manner that honors the Lord.

An Intense Study In Theology (Begins Oct 18th)

Beginning with the month of October we will have started a new study on that most famous of all the works of John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion. This is Calvin’s systematic theology. Many folks embrace “Calvinism” but have never read John Calvin. We shall do this in an interactive atmosphere on one Saturday morning a month from 8:00 to 10:00 am at the home of Geoff Volker. As with our current study we will be reading about 100 pages a month. If you would desire to be a part of this study then let me know (geoff.volker@ids.org, 480-924-4290). The edition that we will be using is, Volume 20 of the Library of Christian Classics, Calvin: Institutes of the Christian Religion. This is a two volume clothbound work and is published by Westminster Press, edited by John McNeill and translated by Ford Lewis Battles. On amazon.com, it can be bought for about $50 (new) or $30 (used). If you have any questions please give Geoff a call (480-924-4290).

The location is the home of Geoff and Priscilla Volker
3324 E Enid Ave
Mesa, AZ 85204

Take US 60 to Val Vista and then turn north and go to Southern Avenue. Proceed north from Southern to the first street on your left. It is clearly marked and it is my street, Enid Avenue. Proceed to the stop sign and then continue on Enid to the 4th house on the right past the stop sign. The house number is on the curb.

Geoff Volker will lead this study.

The next meeting of this study will be Saturday morning, November 7 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. You are to have read book one chapters 13 thru 18 for this meeting. The following meeting on Saturday, December 5 we will be going over book 2 chapters 1 thru 6.
